Looking for Shade
Fern Canopy Giant Tree Ferns shade us as we walked Kalopa state park Big Island
I am constantly looking for shade. This was a habit engrained into me at an early age by my mother. Fair skinned with green eyes, my mother would burn after five minutes of standing in the sun, so we would seek shade, walk on the side if the street that was shaded, park in the shade...
It is habit and it is custom... It drives Woody crazy
"Look, a parking place in the shade."
"Hoku, its a mile away from where we need to be."
"No matter, walk quickly."
"Hoku, you're nuts."
I may be, but it has served me in good sted. I stay out of the blessed sun most of the time in the summer and only get burned rarely.
I lived in California for 38 years, then 4 in the blistering tropical sun of Hawaii...but nothing prepared me for the burning Southern Sun here in Arkansas.
Perhaps its the elevation, or the incessant heat. But I spend more than a few moments in it and I feel fried clear through...As night falls, and we go out the heat radiates off of the parking lot and it feels like the sun. I feel like I am in my new slow cooking BBQ roaster, my skin cream is like sauce Ive mopped on!!
Speaking of my new table top BBQ..I ordered this appliance off TV. A good thing we will be TV less again, as I could get hooked on TV shopping. This was the only thing I have bought and now I turn the thing off! This is a type of slow cooker and not a grill. Im cooking ribs in it, and will let you know how things turn out
Our floors are going into the house. They are gorgeous, and so worth the wait...I may be able to call the movers to get our stuff moved in next week. I cant hardly believe it. I will post pics next week when all is finished.
