The Best of It

The Best of It
However carved up
or pared down we get,
we keep on making
the best of it as though
it doesn't matter that
our acre's down to
a square foot. As
though our garden
could be one bean
and we'd rejoice if
it flourishes, as
though one bean
could nourish us. "The Best of It" by Kay Ryan, from The Niagara River. © Grove Press, New York. Reprinted with permission.
I feel like this sometimes. We continue to have issues with the contractors and still have no hot water. The unit was mis-shipped and should be here in the next few days. I hope we can get hot water before the cold weather hits.
Our friends Ed and Helen are here and we are having a very good time. They were the folks that told us about what they had seen regarding this lovely state and encouraged us to look at it. Well we are here and as we sat tonight over fried chicken dinneres at Myrtie Mae's in Eureka Springs, its hard to believe... 10 years ago I was sitting in their living room planning a wedding... 10 months ago I was also in their living room planning an evacuation from Hawaii.
I so enjoy being with them. I have known this couple nearly twice as long as I have known Woody... We laugh easy together, and talk of people that I have not seen in forever and have fond memories of.
Ed and I have lead worship together, we work well as a musical team and I think understand each other. His wife Helen is a very talented homemaker, who creates beauty with her hands, making things as well as preparing things in her kitchen. I have always admired her ablity to make a home... I can feel the love there anytime I land on their doorstep.
Maybe a bit of their harmonious relationship will rub off on us in these next few days...In the mean time we are playing tourist for a few days and I really need the break.! It will help me to make the best of it as time goes on.
